BC-003 Tradition of “hel defaid”

project

Alun Thomas (left) is a tenant farmer running the Hendre farm on the Penrhyn estate near Bangor, N. Wales. The tradition of “hel defaid” (sheep gathering) from the Eryri mountains is centuries-old and happens three or four times a year. Farmers, their family, labourers, and once even non-farming friends collectively herded the sheep down from the mountains and then separated them. Here they are above Aber falls. Rhodri Jones©
