BC-043. Abandoned School

project

Many smallholding farms were destroyed when the Forestry Commission took over the land from the 1930s to 1950s and their communities slowly died in the following years, never to recover.  An abandoned school playground with a Welsh language compass rose in Brithdir near Dolgellau. The school, one of several in the area was shut down in 2017 as part of a wider local education reorganization plan by Gwynedd Council to establish a new “all-through” catchment school called Ysgol Bro Idris.
